Why Make Baby Pancakes?
Baby pancakes are the first baby food to use in the baby-led weaning feeding approach. They are soft, hand-sized eggless banana pancakes easy to hold with small hands and made of 3 simple ingredients, safe for infants 6 months old and older or ready to eat solid foods.
A baby-led weaning banana pancake recipe is made of whole food to bring nutrients to your infant. It’s naturally:
- Sugar-free – doesn’t contain added sugar.
- Baking powder-free – baking powder can upset infants under 1-year-old, and it’s unnecessary for babies.
- Allergy-friendly – nut-free, dairy-free, egg-free options.
The purpose of baby pancakes is to develop baby sensory skills: taste, touch, and smell. It means that banana pancakes for babies don’t get fluffy. Their purpose is to add nutrient, infant-safe baby-led weaning experience.

- Banana – I am using small, slightly ripe bananas. The recipe works with my baby pumpkin puree for a veggie pancake recipe.
- Milk of choice – can use breastmilk or calcium-fortified soy milk or almond milk.
- Flour– or white whole wheat flour.

I just made these and am curious what should the text be like? I cooked them about 1.5-2 mins a side and they were almost kind of doughy. Is that correct? I assume because of the banana maybe?
Yes, it’s a baby food recipe so it’s very soft and melt in the mouth to avoid chocking.
I’ve made with oat flour and it turned out absolutely delicious, even my husband loved them and did even use syrup, he was a sweet tooth so that’s saying something.
My question now is can I substitute the banana for sweet potatoes?
I am sure it will work well yes!
Great and easy recipe! Can I make with blueberries instead for banana?
I don’t think you can skip the mashed banana here, they act as an egg and gather the flour together. Sweet potato puree or pumpkin puree would work better or add the blueberries into the banana pancake batter!
Can I use formula instead of the milk?
Sure
They don’t seem to cook very well in the inside, is that normal? I tried cooking longer and the outside browns more but the inside is still mushy.
They are soft and chewy but not wet. If they are it means your ratio liquid to solid is too high, this easily happens if your bananas are slightly bigger. Just add a bit more flour in the mix and they should get better.
Hi, can I use oat flour?
I don’t think they will come together with same amount, try my 3 ingredient oat pancakes recipe instead.
Could I make these with prepared formula instead of plant based milk or breast milk and still freeze them?
Probably yes
