This Banana Peanut Butter Ice Cream is the easiest way to make a healthy ice cream. All it takes is two ingredients and 5 minutes to prepare a frozen dessert that everyone will love!
I love quick treat recipes, and for summer, I want to have something refreshing to cool down. I often make my Avocado Ice Cream, but if all I have is 5 minutes and bananas on my benchtop, I go for this banana ice cream.
It’s so easy to make that it quickly became my go-to summer dessert for any occasion.
Ingredients and Substitutions
It only takes two ingredient to make this ice cream. Two!
- Banana – The ripeness of your bananas will change how sweet the ice cream is, so choose the riper ones if you like it sweet. I always keep a few ripe bananas in the freezer to make recipes like this one, but you can also buy frozen bananas.
- Peanut Butter – You need to use natural peanut butter (sugar-free, oil-free, salt-free) for a good consistency. Alternatively, you can use pure almond butter or sunflower seed butter.
How to Make Banana Peanut Butter Ice Cream
You can make it in less than 5 minutes. Read the full instructions further down, but here are a couple of pictures of key steps.
Place the frozen banana and peanut butter in the jug of your food processor.
Blend at high speed for a few minutes until it reaches an ice cream consistency.
Expert Tips
- Use Ripe Bananas: Choose bananas that are fully ripe with brown spots before freezing them. They are sweeter and blend into a creamier texture, enhancing the natural sweetness of the ice cream.
- Freeze Properly: Slice the bananas before freezing them. Lay the slices in a single layer on a baking sheet to prevent them from sticking together. Once frozen, transfer them to a resealable bag for easy storage.
- Blend Thoroughly: Use a high-speed blender or food processor to blend the frozen banana slices and peanut butter until smooth and creamy. This ensures a consistent texture and prevents any chunks of banana.
- Adjust Peanut Butter: Start with a small amount of peanut butter and add more to taste. This allows you to control the flavor and texture. For a smoother blend, use creamy peanut butter.
- Add a Splash of Liquid: If the mixture is too thick to blend, add a small splash of plant-based milk (like almond or soy milk) to help achieve the desired consistency.
- Chill Before Serving: For a firmer texture, place the blended mixture back in the freezer for about 10-15 minutes before serving. This helps it set and makes it easier to scoop.
- Enhance the Flavor: Add a pinch of salt or a dash of vanilla extract to enhance the flavors of the banana and peanut butter. This adds depth and complexity to the ice cream.
- Texture Variations: For added texture, stir in some chopped nuts, chocolate chips, dates, or dried fruit after blending. These add-ins provide a delicious crunch and extra flavor.
- Single-Serve Portions: Freeze the mixture in small, single-serve containers for easy, portion-controlled treats. This makes it convenient to grab a quick, healthy snack whenever you want.
- Healthy Toppings: Top your ice cream with fresh fruit, a drizzle of maple syrup, a sprinkle of granola, or some of my Magic Chocolate Shell for an extra layer of flavor and nutrition.

Banana Peanut Butter Ice Cream
Ingredients
- 4 large Frozen Bananas - sliced, equivalent to 2 cups
- ¼ cup Peanut Butter
Instructions
- Blend the two ingredients on low speed in a blender using the tamper attachment or in a food processor. Stop often, scrape the sides of the bowl, and repeat until it forms a smooth, thick ice cream texture.
- It will be difficult to blend, and adding 1-2 tablespoon of almond milk can help, but it also turns the texture softer.
- Serve immediately, or use my magic chocolate shell recipe to drizzle on top. You can store leftovers for up to 1 month in an airtight container, but the texture becomes icy, and you need to remove the ice cream from the fridge 15 minutes before eating to soften.
