This Banana Strawberry Protein Shake is a refreshing shake made with just 4 base ingredients and bringing over 28 grams of protein per serving.
I love quick and nutritious snacks, like my Protein Shake or Cinnamon Roll Protein Shake, so I designed this refreshing shake to be both delicious and protein-packed. This shake delivers over 28 grams of protein per serving, making it a perfect post-workout drink or a quick breakfast option.
The natural sweetness of bananas and strawberries blends beautifully with the creamy texture, creating a sweet and healthy treat that you can whip up in no time.
Ingredients and Substitutions
You need 4 base ingredients to make this shake, but you can add some delicious additions to make it sweeter or higher in protein.
- Vanilla Protein Powder – I use NuZest or MacroMike protein powder which are respectively made with peas and peanuts or almonds.
- Frozen Strawberries – I prefer frozen strawberries over fresh ones, because it avoids having to add ice cubes that dilute the flavor.
- Frozen Banana – Similarly, go for frozen bananas over fresh to not have to add ice cubes.
- Plant-Based Milk – You can use any plant-based milk. Almond milk has the most neutral taste, but soy milk brings the most protein.
- Hemp Seeds – This healthy ingredient brings a lot of natural protein and not flavor at all.
- Maple Syrup -If you need to sweeten the shake, you can add maple syrup or any other natural liquid sweetener, like coconut nectar or agave syrup.
How to Make Banana Strawberry Protein Shake
This shake is as easy to make as any other shake!
Pour all the ingredients in your blender.
Blend on high speed and adjust the taste and sweetness with optional ingredients.
Expert Tips
- Choose High-Protein Ingredients: If you want to boost the protein as much as possible, use soy milk, a rich protein powder, and hemp seeds. You can also add chia seeds.
- Use Frozen Fruits: Use frozen bananas and strawberries to create a thicker, creamier shake without needing to add ice, which can dilute the flavor.
- Blend Thoroughly: To achieve a smooth and creamy texture, blend all the ingredients at high speed until completely smooth. If you prefer a thinner consistency, add more plant-based milk gradually.
- Natural Sweeteners: If you need extra sweetness, add a bit of natural sweetener like maple syrup, agave nectar, or a couple of pitted dates. Taste the shake before adding to adjust the sweetness to your liking.
- Add Leafy Greens: For an extra nutritional boost, consider adding a handful of spinach or kale. The mild flavor of these greens blends well with the fruits and adds valuable vitamins and minerals.
- Use a High-Quality Blender: A high-speed blender ensures all the ingredients are fully blended, resulting in a smoother and more enjoyable shake. I once had a blender with dull blades and it was not making great shakes!
- Serve Immediately: For the best texture and flavor, enjoy your shake immediately after blending. If you need to store it, keep it in an airtight container in the refrigerator and give it a good shake before drinking.
